Flying pupils + Forces in action = Fun with physics

iFLY Indoor Skydiving has created a fantastic, active learning experience with children and accessible science in mind and they are proud to announce that their Wind Workshops have been awarded CREST Superstar status by the British Science Association.

Imagine a wind tunnel that could be used for testing the aerodynamics of an F1 racing car, turn it upright, step into the airflow and you are skydiving. Now imagine using this to demonstrate surface area and air flow. Carlsberg don’t do science lessons but if they did it would probably be an iFLY Wind Workshop.

Science of flying workshops

For the young scientist, iFLY Wind Workshops are practical and hands on with the emphasis on FUN! Classes are led by Professor iFLY who takes the children through interactive demonstrations to show the basics of how a wind tunnel works before setting them fun, practical, wind based challenges that encourage time management, problem solving and working in a team.

Discover forces school workshops here.

To make sure the workshop finishes on a high and to bring theory to life the children will then have two flights in the wind tunnel which is the equivalent of three real tandem skydives and falling three miles! What better way to bring theory of physics to life and above all, show how simple and fun science can be!

Designed with children and accessible science in mind, we know this is a truly inspirational and comprehensive life and learning experience. The combination of our Wind Workshop and indoor skydiving allows children to experience, first-hand, the effects of force on their body, which is a fantastic, active learning experience.

Here is a sample of some of the positive feedback we have received:

Flying school visit

“The workshop brought the science to life in an exciting way and was easy for the children to relate to.  It was a great way of explaining what was actually happening in the wind tunnel. The whole experience was very well designed and brilliantly executed. It was very safe and an exhilarating experience.”

"The CREST-accredited Wind Workshop that you included with the flight experience made things so easy for us. It was a great way for the children to learn all about surface area and flying.”
